Giuseppe Conte, the Prime Minister of Italy has said six EU nations are ready to welcome some of the 147 immigrants stranded on a ship near the Lampedusa Island.

Giuseppe Conte says that six EU nations including France, Germany, Romania, Portugal, Spain, and Luxembourg are willing to take in the migrants.

He said it in an open letter addressed to Salvini, who has sought to stop the Open Arms rescue ship from accessing Italian waters.

He further wrote:

“Once again, my European counterparts are offering us a helping hand.”

The vessel was stopped from docking however many people were shifted to shore by the Italian coastguard for urgent medical care.

It followed a court order which said emergency help should be given to the migrants on board the vessel.
