Today, on Saturday, the World Migratory Bird Day has been celebrated to highlight the issue of pollution under the theme, ‘Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution.’
World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is celebrated twice a year on the second Saturday of May and on October 12, all over the world, to pay attention to the issues regarding migratory birds and their habitats.
The decline of migratory birds is by no means a new issue. To raise awareness toward the need for the conservation of migratory birds, their habitats and their importance for nature preservation, people organize public events like lectures, bird festivals, cleanup actions, seminars, and bird-watching tours.
Bird migration is one of the most important natural phenomena. Migratory birds make the journey from one region to another region to seek the best ecological environment and habitats which involves crossing several borders between countries.
WMBD is celebrated globally and is a constructive way to help raise international awareness of the threats faced by migratory species, their ecological importance, and the need for international collaboration to provide them protection.
