The UK announced to introduce an unlimited fast-track visa program to attract researchers and scientists from all over the world.

The new Global Talent route program announced by the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will be opened in the coming month on February 20th.

The Global Talent Visa route that replaces the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) route will not be capped. This scheme will be welcoming top scientists, mathematician and researchers from all over the globe.

PM Johnson said, “The UK has a proud history of scientific discovery but to lead the field and face the challenges of the future we need to continue to invest in talent and cutting-edge research.”

He further stated, “As we leave the EU I want to send a message that the UK is open to the most talented minds in the world, and stand ready to support them to turn their ideas into reality.”

In 2019, Johnson had promised to turn the United Kingdom into a “supercharged magnet to attract scientists like iron filings”.

Highly Regarded Philip Barth, Irwin Mitchell’s immigration head has stated, “The introduction of the global talent visa is a welcome one, though it could be on the face of it little more than a rebranding and slight expansion of the current exceptional talent visa.”

Prof Sir Mark Walport, the head of UKRI said: “Today’s announcements further underline the importance of research and innovation to the future success of the UK and the government’s continued commitment and investment.”

Moreover, under the new scheme, the candidates will not require a job offer before arriving in the UK and it will ease the settlement for all researchers and specialists who are endorsed.
