On November 30, 2020, in a press statement, the Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs proclaimed some additional changes to support the candidate of the Family visa for Australia.
These additional changes to the Australian Family visa program are made to support and encourage the candidates that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures will come into force in early 2021.
Earlier, numerous efforts had been declared to reduce the impact of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic on Australian visa holders. These measures give the visa holders resilience for continuing in Australia.
But, in recent changes, the government of Australia will allow the various Australian Family visas that are applied from outside the state, to be provided while the visa candidate is in Australia.
Typically, a “fly-in, fly-out” rule is applied for Australian Family visas. In this rule, the visa applicant needs to travel outside the country at the moment when the visa is being granted.
Through the short-term allowance proclaimed by the Australian government On November 30, individuals that are in Australia will not need to travel outside the state, among the COVID-19 associated border closings, to be granted their Australian Family visa.
According to Minister Alan Tudge, the further changes to Family visa will allow a foreign partner of an Australian citizen to proceed their visa, without leaving the state.
Note that: In Australia currently, about 4,000 visa candidates are to be affected by the changes.
The Partner visa (subclass 309) for Australia, allows the spouse of an eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident or citizen, to live in Australia temporarily.
Obtaining a subclass 309 visa is an initiative towards the Partner visa subclass 100 as it allows the partner of an eligible New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or citizen to live permanently in Australia.
Usually, the Australian subclass 100 visas are granted to the holder of a subclass 309 visa.
The Australian immigration, Minister Alan Tudge said that the changes to Family visa for Australia will be temporary and would be reviewed.
The temporary allowance of enabling visa candidates to remain in the state for their visa processing will be applied to the following:
1. Partner (subclass 309)
2. Prospective Marriage (subclass 300)
3. Child (subclass 101)
4. Adoption (subclass 102)
5. Dependent Child (subclass 445)
